Responsibilities

  • Because X-Caddie carries an onboard battery and operates around people, this is a safety-critical system, and you'll work within a safety architecture and toward relevant certification
  • Primary focus — performance and infrastructure:
  • Develop global and local planning, trajectory tracking, and obstacle avoidance for constrained, semi-structured environments such as parking lots and campuses, built primarily on ROS2 / Nav2.
  • Implement the robot's decision layer — the mission state machine and policies for yielding, blocked-path handling, degraded operation, and escalation — with deterministic, reviewable state transitions.
  • Implement Nav2 behavior trees and recovery behaviors for handling navigation failures.
  • Develop precision docking: high-accuracy alignment of the robot to a target vehicle to enable reliable automated charging, robust to real-world variation in vehicle position and environment.
  • Develop motion planning and sequencing for a 6-DoF robotic arm, coordinating base positioning with arm reach to carry out automated charging-plug insertion and retraction safely and repeatably.
  • Handle the kinematic realities of a skid-steer platform, ensuring smooth, bounded, and predictable motion at low speed.
  • Tune configurable parameters (e.g., safety distances, speed limits, cost weights) and validate resulting behavior against ground truth on real hardware.
  • Shared across the autonomy team:
  • Validate work through simulation and on-site testing on real hardware; analyze performance and iterate.
  • Write and maintain production-quality code (Python and/or C++) within a ROS2-based system.
