Responsibilities

  • As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of software engineers as a dedicated people and delivery leader.
  • You will keep enough technical depth to guide architectural decisions, hold the team to a high standard and ask the right questions to enable the engineering team to achieve outstanding results.
  • You will help the team work efficiently, collaborating with product and project teams aligning your team workload to delivery timescales and escalating issues to the Chief Technology Officer as needed.
  • You will also support the embedding of AI-assisted development
  • Guide the technical direction and architecture for your area, ensuring key design decisions and trade-offs are made by the right people, well-reasoned and properly documented.
  • Line-manage a team of c.7 software engineers: regular 1:1s, objective setting, performance reviews, and identifying and addressing performance challenges, providing further support where required.
  • Define and uphold coding standards, patterns and best practice across the team, reviewing code to ensure delivery of reliable, secure and maintainable software.
  • Act as the escalation point for production and technical incidents affecting your area, driving root-cause analysis and follow-up improvements.
  • Represent engineering in cross-functional planning, translating product and business priorities into a realistic technical roadmap for the team.
  • Own the quality and currency of the team's technical documentation, wikis and release notes across all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Establish and sustain a culture of code and architecture review, continuous learning and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Developing the understanding and use of AI within the engineering team.
