Job summary

Job Summary We are excited to invite enthusiastic, motivated and passionate individuals to join our Antenatal and Newborn screening team at University Hospitals Birmingham. This is a permanent position within the screening team working 22.5 hours per week. The role is based at Heartlands hospital, however flexibility is required with travel to Good Hope and Solihull sites where necessary.

  • Essential
  • Registered Midwife on the NMC register
  • Diploma/BSc in Midwifery Studies
  • Desirable
  • Evidence of further education in Research and Audit
  • Experience
  • Evidence of relevant clinical experience
  • Evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • Understands safeguarding services and supports applying this care
  • Can demonstrate a knowledge of current and emerging health care issues

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the Antenatal and Newborn screening programmes.
  • Advocate for service users to ensure a service user focused approach to care.
  • Perform phlebotomy when required for the facilitation of screening tests.
  • Provide training and support for other healthcare professionals with regards to screening, for example at the mandatory training days.
  • This may occasionally include travel to Good Hope or Solihull Hospitals.
  • Ensure that appropriate advice, guidance and support is provided to all women undergoing screening.
  • Ensure that results are interpreted accurately and necessary action is taken.
  • Accurate record keeping of clinical assessments.
  • Utilise language services to communicate with service users where required.
  • Support families through the delivery of difficult news, providing sensitive and compassionate care.
